baby, it’s cold outside…weatherize and bundle up for the holidays…

for those of us old enough to remember (hello? the only photo i could find was in black and white!), jimmy carter was mocked at the time,  but he was right! we now know that wearing a lightweight sweater in the house adds about 2 degrees in body warmth; a heavier one gets you 4…

there are good things and bad things about living in our 1950s house:  aesthetically, it’s all good – large sliding glass doors, old school crank windows, open floor plan, fireplace…energy-wise, it’s not so good – large sliding glass doors, old school crank windows, open floor plan, fireplace…

the new york times recently published an article about ways we can stop all that precious heat from escaping – “plugging leaks and zipping up”

could this guy be wrong?

in the meantime, bundle up and save some cold (brrr!) hard cash. according to the department of energy, most households spend 50% to 70% of their energy budgets on heating and cooling. but for every degree you lower the thermostat, you’ll save between 1 and 3 percent of your heating bill…and that’s nothing to sneeze at!
