“reflect, rejoice, renew”… the obamas reuse ornaments from christmas past…

in the spirit of this year’s white house holiday theme, volunteers and decorators went into the white house warehouses to collect over 800 ornaments from past administrations. michelle obama had them sent out to 60 community groups and asked them to decorate them in tribute to a local landmark and send them back. instead of the usual dozen trees, this year there are seven, decorated with the recycled ornaments and LED lights.

and while this may not be a completely new idea, i find it inspirational on many levels. whether you host a reuse-redecorate or ornament exchange party; or do it yourself and give them as gifts, i think it’s a lovely gesture of gratitude and upcycling for the holiday season.
